Behind the Blog

Hi. I'm Sarah.

I've been involved in the cheerleading world for nearly two decades. I have done swimming, soccer, basketball, and dance over the years, but cheerleading has always stuck with me.

All-star cheerleading is an ever-growing community, some could call it a cult. When you enter, it's a bit difficult at first to really find where you fit in. There's highs, there's lows, there's everything in between.

The governing bodies of all-star cheerleading haven't been 100% transparent with what goes on. While athlete safety and protection is claimed to be their top priority, Varsity and USASF are well aware on what's really going on, but refuse to take any serious action to stop these issues.

Many recall the Larry Nassar and USA Gymnastics situation. While people within the cheerleading community don't want what's going on to escalate to that level, if things don't change, we might see that unfold in cheer.

The aim with this blog is to support, encourage, and inform from a former athlete/current coach's perspective. I think a lot isn't talked about in all-star cheer and there are some topics that really should be brought to light and discussed more.

So many athletes/coaches/personnel feel alone in this community, and I want this blog to be a safe space. But I also want it to be a place where people can learn about what really goes on behind closed gym doors. I want to be an advocate for athletes; Those who feel like they aren't protected enough in this sport or that the higher-ups aren't doing enough to make sure they feel safe when they walk in the doors of their gyms.

While the main focus of this blog is advocacy and awareness, we do need to have a little fun once in a while. This blog will also include some fun topics, things that'll make you laugh. You should be able to come to this blog and not only be informed, but also be a place that you can go if you need your cheer fix.

Some fun tidbits:
-Been to the D2 Summit a total of four times, once as a spectator, three times as a coach, never as an athlete!
-I have 10+ national champion titles.

  • Including a top-5 finish at NCA All-Star Nationals in Dallas, TX!

-I coached two teams with nearly undefeated seasons (only got second at one comp!!)
-I also did sideline cheerleading

-I have a younger brother who started cheering because of me and is now a ICU World Champion, ICU World Cup Champion, NCA All Star National Champion, and a MAJORS champion!
