Labeled as one of the most prestigious all-star cheerleading competition an athlete can attend, The Summit 2024 occurred this past weekend in Orlando, FL at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex inside Disney World. Thousands of athletes competed over the span of four days with the end goal being crowned Summit champions. This event truly is a highlight of many athletes and families alike, getting to compete quite literally against the best of the best in their respective divisions. Let's take a look at some impressive routines from this past weekend.
Ties on Ties on Ties
I think this was probably the most ties/ co-champions we've seen occur at The Summit. Many ties occurring in lower placements, but we saw five different divisions have a tie for first place or Varsity acknowledging an error on their part and crowning co-champions.
Senior 1 Medium named the Stingray All Stars Blush out of Marietta, GA. However, it wasn't until after the awards that Accuscore said there was an updated score for the named second place team Inferno from California Pride. After the updated scores came in, Inferno would've beaten Blush by .3, but instead Varsity made the decision to crown them co-champions.
Senior 4 Coed Small named Ultimate Athletics Lady Shade as the winners of the division, judges saying they scored zero deductions. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for Lady Shade as they had a stunt fall that would've put them in at least third or fourth place. UA made things right and with good sportsmanship and honesty, decided to share the title with Diamonds All Stars KNOCKOUTS, who would've been crowned as first had there not been a scoring error.
We are Rival, this is RIVAL.
Rival Athletics out of Utah is one of the most talented programs in the country. Their Limited Small Coed 6 "Senior Strange" took second at the Cheerleading Worlds, while their Junior 4 "Revenge" went back-to-back-to-back at The Summit, earning a 99.6 on Day 2, once again being the grand Summit champions. "Carnage", their Senior Coed 3 took first, as well as their Junior 1 "Infinity." Their Medium Junior 3 "Voltage" took third, their Senior 1 "Vision" and Junior 2 "Venom" took sixth, respectively.
