The competition cheerleading season is year round. When they say, "the grind never stops", it truly doesn't. Even when Summit and Worlds have passed, athletes usually have only two weeks in between that time and the start of a brand new season.
The practices can seem long and draining, and sometimes they need to be spiced up a bit. Getting together with your team and coming up with themed practices is not only a great way to bond, but a great way to have fun at practice. Here are eight ideas that your team can do for a themed practice.
White Lies
I never had a themed practice with this, but within the last year or so thanks to TikTok and Instagram, the concept of "white lies" practice has trended among cheer teams. This probably is more appropriate for higher level junior teams or senior teams as it's a bit of self-depreciation, but it's a way to have a little fun. Basically, you come up with a lie about yourself. For example, "I always catch my flyer", or "I never bend my legs in a back walkover." You'll write this "white lie" on a shirt (or on a stomach if you're wearing a sports bra) and show up to practice wearing it!

Throwback Uniforms
This one was always fun to do when I was in cheer. Going back into the bin full of old shirts and uniforms from when you were younger and trying to slip that on for practice was entertaining. It's also fun to see where everyone started their cheer journey, and cool to see how uniforms have developed over the years!

Dress Like Your Coach
Your coach always has a signature thing that makes them who they are. Whether it's the clothes they wear, the iced coffee they roll up to practice with, or the shoes they wear, have your athletes dress up like their coaches and you're such to get a laugh out of it.

Battle/Army
This one is great for competition week. Dress up in your armor, get your eye grease, put those braids in, and come to practice ready to battle the week that comes prior to competition.

Movies/Bands
Get your stunt groups together and have each group dress up like a particular movie or even rock band! For example, if your stunt group decides to have their movie be Disney's "Inside Out", you could all each represent one of the emotions: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear!
Superhero
I love this one for Jamfest Super Nationals week. Come to practice dressed as your favorite superhero and show everyone your super powers as you take on Jamfest!

Disney/Worlds
This theme is perfect for Summit/Worlds week. You can either dress in your favorite Mickey Mouse t-shirt, or come supporting your favorite Worlds team!

Pajama Day
This one is another one that could be used for Jamfest Super Nationals. The popular slogan used with this competition is, "No Sleep Till Indy." This also could be just an excuse to roll up to practice wearing your most comfiest relaxing clothes.
